“So I put out the proposal, and it’s still on hold as you can see,” musician Van Hunt recently revealed in an interview with TODAY.com, confirming what fans had long suspected: the question has already been popped. But the answer? Still pending.

Halle Berry and Van Hunt have been inseparable since they began dating in 2020, a relationship that blossomed virtually during the early months of the pandemic. From the start, the Oscar-winning actress has called Van the “love of [her] life”, and even had what she described as an “impromptu commitment ceremony” with him in 2021, an idea sparked by her son, Maceo.

Despite the deep emotional bond and their public expressions of affection, marriage is still on pause—for now.

In his candid moment with TODAY.com, Van laughed, saying:

“It’s just out there floating. You know, maybe you can encourage her.”

So why hasn’t Halle said yes?

“Well, I’ve been married three times. Van has been married once,” Halle explained. “We don’t feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way. We don’t.”

It’s a refreshing take on commitment, one rooted in experience and mutual understanding. Halle’s hesitance isn’t about a lack of love—far from it. In fact, she spoke fondly about what Van means to her, saying:

“Out of the people I’ve been married to, this is the person I should have married. We should get married, but it’s not because we feel like we have to. It’s something that we would like to do just because we want that expression.”

If timing is everything, then perhaps the wait is part of the journey. When asked when she might finally accept the proposal, Halle simply said:

“Soon.”

She continued, sharing that their nearly five-year relationship is the most fulfilling one she’s ever had:

“This is the longest relationship I’ve ever had. It’s the happiest [I’ve ever been]. When you find your person, you find your person. I now have found my person, finally.”

So while there may not be wedding bells just yet, Halle and Van are clearly in it for the long haul. And maybe that’s the love story that matters most.
